I thought traffic in NYC moved at 5 mph anyway.. :)

Lol, it's 30-40 where I live lol. SO much 55 around me too lol. #UpstateIsBetter

Not all the time! It reaches 6 sometimes! :D

Sometimes I've made it home from midtown Manhattan to Long Island (35 miles) in under an hour... leaving at 5:30PM on a weekday. Other times... 1.5-2 hours.
Unless you're driving on one of the highways, you really don't need to go more than 30-35mph

ahh, my bad. I sincerely apologise.

So much 70 and cops letting you go as fast as want. #FloridaIsFaster,NotBetter

Don't you guys use them metrics gibberish, you Canadian hippies?!?!

The stupid thing about this is that I STILL would like to move to NY for a year or so.. :)
![]() 11/06/2014 at 23:16 |

Go about 10 miles south and you get to 65. I live pretty much in the country and state limit is 55 except on the Interstates.
![]() 11/06/2014 at 23:18 |

There are a couple of 65mph 2 lanes down here. Those are somewhat fun.

You can move to Brooklyn or Queens and still have a car. Street parking is a bit of a nuisance, but it's manageable.
I find driving in NYC is blown out of proportion. People tell me "omg, driving in NYC is so hard!" or "I'd never drive in Manhattan." Truth is, it's mostly straight lines and grids... and there are bikers, pedestrians, etc. But if you avoid the busiest places it's really not that bad.
I find driving in Long Island is more difficult.

No, MPH man.
![]() 11/06/2014 at 23:21 |

Yeah. You can usually get away with 10 over in NY. I think we have better roads because we have more hills though. If I know Florida isn't it quite flat?

I drove a lorry from Oslo to Rome and back for a year, I think I'll manage NYC :)
I just need to find a job down there.

HAHA, 80 mph on the interstate in Idaho, and we have the best governers name in the US
Butch Otter. I think he Otter raise it even higher.
![]() 11/06/2014 at 23:22 |

25...where? Surely it's not 25 in neighborhoods and on the interstate, lol. Here speed lmit's very from 30 to 60..and 75 on the interstate

Come to the better part of New York. Where there is snow, hills, farms, and lakes! That's where I live!
![]() 11/06/2014 at 23:25 |

But I can have lakes, snow and hills here in Hamar :) I'd like to move to the US to try something else. That said, I'd love to visit all the states, just rent a car and drive drive drive.

City-wide in all 5 boroughs, unless otherwise posted. Highways here range from 45-60 and I think those are staying the same.
![]() 11/06/2014 at 23:27 |

That sounds terrible, though then again, it's not like you can go much faster in NY..I live in a..not small but..smaller city in Colorado, soo, we have room to actually hit 6o where allowed...or even not allowed I guess, lol
![]() 11/06/2014 at 23:29 |
|
That's not too terrible. 40 km/h is school zone speed. With that many people around, it's not a bad idea.
![]() 11/06/2014 at 23:30 |
|
In the outer boroughs here you can easily hit 30 without even knowing lol. 25 is going to be a snail's pace...

That's why I was recommending here! NYC is a great city but it's not amazing. That being said, a lot of the states are really nice. Especially Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, the Dakotas, Ohio, New York, New England, Wyoming, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, WV, the Carolinas, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa. All have good roads, lakes, and are just really beautiful. The other 30 or so I haven't yet been through so I can't really speak for them.
(Ones listed are the ones I've been to that I can remember off the top of my head.)

Towards the coast, yes. There are a few decent hills just south of the Alabama line. This is just north of me.

Nice, this is my area. You can't really see the elevation but it's there.

In Manhattan it makes sense, but they're applying this to all of NYC, where it's less congested.

Yeah, my concept of speed is going to shit again.. I was like that when young, then was able to tell my speed without looking, but at work now I have a very very slow shitty truck for the moment, and I drive it all day..then get in my Z and all of a sudden I'm doing 70 in a 55 without realizing how fast I'm going -.- My Beetle would emberass the truck I drive, but because it's so big, it's confusing to my brain. Also it's speedometer is off... The Beetle is fairly easy to keep under the speed limit, the transmission linkage will start ratteling if I break 60, haha..then again, I won't always hear that over the subs...
![]() 11/06/2014 at 23:42 |

Not a big deal - used to be 30 unless posted. Taxi drivers will still charge up 6th Avenue at 53 mph.

Upstate NY is better, but NYC is still a good city.
